Ground Floor of a New Private Residence – 2014
This client had designed and built a new house, but had no idea what to do or how to implement a lighting design that was interesting and had some memorable qualities. They also had no idea what to put on the ground floor of the house, as they had specific requirements.
I was asked to provide them with a concept for the lighting of the entire ground floor, which you can see on the drawings and hopefully the photographs. They were happy to incorporate all of the suggestions, which included some quirky, fun fittings, and also some fittings that were traditional in their shape but very modern in the materials from which they were made.
They have a very minimal style when it comes to the house, and spend more time out of the house. However they have children, animals and horses, so the specification for a material to cover the ground floor, except the sitting room, had to allow for all of these things.
I presented them with a tile which looks like alabaster, but is a fraction of the cost, and using the same material, but in different module sizes and laid in different patterns, it can look like you have spent more than you may have done.
They were very pleased with the results, however the pictures, sadly do not do the final results justice.
